What are you doing on purpose to support your children with reading?
What is in place above and beyond the normal parameters to encourage reading for pleasure?
How are you developing reading experiences for your most vulnerable children?

There is a growing body of evidence which illustrates the importance of reading for pleasure for both educational purposes as well as personal development (cited in Clark and Rumbold, 2006).
Evidence suggests that there is a positive relationship between reading frequency, reading enjoyment and attainment (Clark 2011; Clark and Douglas 2011) If children cannot read for betterment, they will struggle to access the curriculum.

Touchstone research has proven the phenomenal statistic that whether or not a child enjoys reading is more important to their educational success than their family background. In other words, Reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child's future success.

Book in a Box is a company set up by a Primary School Deputy Head who saw a need to supply high quality reading material for the most vulnerable children in the country. It is thought almost 500,000 children do not own a single book of their own and we know that the ability to read is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success . We are extremely passionate in ensuring that all children have access to high quality material that is theirs to treasure and keep.

Barrington Stoke books (high interest/low reading age) are available upon request for those children whose reading ages are significantly below their chronological age.

Schools use their Pupil Premium Grant to fund Book in a Box for their most vulnerable children. The EEF recommend that 1/4 of the PPG is spent on 'wider strategies' - which is where we come in. For us, there is no better way to spend money to develop and enhance children’s educational needs and experiences. Not only do children look forward to receiving their own post each month, it also means they can build their own little library/ book collection of their own. Tracking the impact of using a 'Book in a Box' is easy - as children are more engaged and excited to talk about their special book delivery they regularly receive.
